Teaching is more than a calling, it is an art form and the teacher is the artist. Like any artist, the teacher must first get comfortable with their tools before they can become a master of the art form. Some of those tools are techniques employed by the teacher while others are software, apps and equipment.
Early in your career, you may feel like your toolbox is nothing more than a set of toys or watercolors and you are playing with no real skill at using them.
Practice improves skill & confidence in your tools and encourages you to add more sophisticated tools and techniques to create new works of art.
Technology integration is defined as the use of technology to enhance and support the educational environment. Technology integration in the classroom can also support classroom instruction by creating opportunities for students to complete assignments on a computer or tablet rather than with pencil and paper.
Technology should not be the focus of instruction, but should be a tool the teacher utilizes to enhance the learning experience for the students.
There are several models used to describe the levels of classroom technology integration. One of the easiest to comprehend is the SAMR Model outlined in this image. There are other, more descriptive models that lay out tech integration in a matrix form with descriptors.
